ABS Sensors
Antilock braking sensor (ABS)
The primary function of an ABS sensor is to report the rotational speed of the wheels to the ABS computer. In modern cars this information is also relayed to the electronic control unit (ECU), the traction control system (TCS), the electronic stability program (EPS) & ever increasingly the integrated satellite navigation systems (SAT NAV). There are sensors for each wheel, 4 in total.
A faulty ABS sensor will normally display a warning symbol on the dashboard and log a fault code in the ECU/BSI/UCH.
This code will normally need to be read and reset for ABS function to be restored and to pass an mot, although replacement parts are often required to restore full function.
We offer a mobile code reading service to help pin point the fault (Click here for more info).
